Veteran Indian filmmaker Mrinal Sen said it was a 'sheer' accident that he became a filmmaker.

"It is an accident to come in cinema. I was never committed, I write by compulsion and I made films by accident, " Sen said at the Bengal Chambers here, where he was felicitated on Tuesday night.

Sen said that he is not sure if he will be able to make a new film though he badly wants to.

"I do not know if I will be able to make a new film. But I wish to make films again, " he said.

Sen said fresh ideas still keep on 'popping' up in his mind every day.

"Every time I wake up, I feel like making a film and writing a script. But I cannot concentrate. Ideas keep popping to my head, but I cannot execute them. This is what is happening to me, " the 88-year-old said.

Sen said he loved filmmaker Satyajit Ray's movies and yet he was critical about his films.

Talking on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee returning land to unwilling farmers in Singur, Sen said he doubts if the 400 acre will be equally fertile to grow crops.

"It is something not so easy to happen, " Sen said.

He said Tatas (and their small car Nano project) were 'thrown out' of West Bengal and if they would have stayed, then it would have been beneficial for the state and the people.

" (Ratan) Tata has been thrown out. Had the Tatas been here, it would have been quite good, " the veteran filmmaker said.

"So it is Tata or anybody else, you will have problem. I do not know what will happen, let us see what they do (Mamata Banerjee government), " he said.

Sen said he was critical about the activities of the Left-run state government and he will remain critical on the present Trinamnool Congress- Congress run government as well,

"I do not know what the new government will do. I was critical and close to the previous government and I am critical to this government as well, " he said.

Sen was felicitated by the Managing Committee Members of The Bengal Chambers for his contribution in the field of world cinema.
