The blasts tore though crowded areas in evening rush hour at Dadar West in central Mumbai and in southern part's upscale Opera House and diamond trade hub of Zaveri Bazar.

The strike, described as a coordinated terrorist attack by Chidambaram, have also injured at least 133 people, 23 of them seriously, officials said.
Zaveri Bazaar is the soft target of the terrorists which was attacked before, including during the 1993 serial blasts. It was also one the targets in 2003.
Major terror strikes on the city have grabbed headlines in the city periodically. There were seven train blasts on July 11, 2006 on the Mumbai suburban railway network killing about 209. About 700 were injured.
Two years later, at least 166 people were killed and over 300 injured in the worst terrorist attack on Mumbai in Nov 2011 when Pakistani terrorists who came by sea laid siege to the city's key places and luxury hotels for days.
