Before STAR WARS birthed generations of fanatics, before SPIDERMAN caught on in syndication, before HARRY POTTER made kids read books again, 1968's seminal PLANET OF THE APES launched the first fanboy phenomenon.
A box-office smash, the movie was considered as one of the greatest classics of celluloid science fiction, and spawned a series of '70s films, TV shows, a merchandising tie-in bonanza, a misguided Tim Burton remake and now, one of the most anticipated films of this year- RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES.
RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES is a high octane action-packed thriller, in which dangers of science leads to intelligence in apes and a challenge to humans as the dominant species on the planet. It stars the dashing Oscar nominated actor of 127 Hours fame James Franco and India's very own Slumdog Millionaire girl, Freida Pinto.
Oscar winning New Zealand-based digital effects house Weta Digital, which have created masterpieces such as AVATAR, THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, and KING KONG have expanded upon its Academy Award-winning work to render, for the first time ever in the film series, photo-realistic apes rather than costumed actors.
This technology allows audiences to emotionally engage with a lead character, a chimpanzee named Caesar, who does not actually exist.
Says Director Rupert Wyatt, "When you have an opportunity to work with Weta and what they can achieve with motion capture technology you take it, " says Wyatt. "We're at the dawn of a whole new age for motion capture photography and we're using that technology to tell a whole story about the dawn of a new civilization, which is really exciting."
Well, we are sure fans just cannot wait to catch this larger than life visual effects extravaganza as its hits theatres August 5th!
