Kirti Kumar, filmmaker and elder brother of actor-turned-MP Govinda, has received life threat from unidentified
persons, police said on Tuesday.
"Kumar was going to suburban Borivali with a friend in his car via Andheri-Kurla Link road on Monday night when
four persons in a Qualis jeep overtook them and one of them pointed a gun at the actor's brother. Later, they
overtook them and left in a different direction," DCP Ravindra Shengaonkar said.
He said that the complaint was registered at Versova police station but later it was learnt that the area where
the incident took place fell under Andheri police station and so the matter was transferred there.
"We are investigating the case and have provided one armed constable for Kumar's protection," Shengaonkar
said.
Many Bollywood personalities had received threats. Some years ago, actress Preity Zinta had received a call
on her cell phone from a member of underworld don Chhota Shakeel's gang men asking for protection money,
but she had dismissed it as a crank call.
Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan had received extortion calls from the underworld and his refusal to pay the ransom
resulted in a shoot out in which he received a bullet injury.
He was admitted to hospital and Roshan survived the murderous attack.
Other Bollywood personalities who have fallen prey to underworld figures include producers Mukesh Duggal and
Gulshan Kumar.
