After a comeback in Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap, it looks like Raveena Tandon is ready to take on bigger challenges. Tandon has given her nod to new film titled Shobhana 7 Nights.
Directed by Sudipto Chattopadhyaya, known for his dark and quirky film Pankh, that dealt with child artistes who play roles of the opposite gender, his film is about Bollywood's struggling male actors, who turn to prostitution to earn an extra buck.
Tandon plays a 40-something columnist-author abused by her husband (played by Rohit Roy). She finds solace in a toy boy, one of the many strugglers of Bollywood who is trying to make ends meet.
Says a source, "Raveena's character gets into an intense relationship with a toy boy, played by newcomer Amit Purohit. Her first reaction was to turn down the role since the character was a bit bold. She hasn't attempted a lovemaking or kissing scene. The thought of doing a film where she gets into a relationship with a younger man freaked her out."
Two things, we learn, convinced the actress to take up the role. One was Chattopadhyaya's earlier film that left her impressed with his work. Further, Tandon was reportedly challenged by the role in Shobhana 7 Nights.
"The director assured Raveena that this could get her her second National Award if she attempted the role.
She had no reason to disbelieve him, " says the source.
Meanwhile, Tandon confirms she will take the challenge head on. "I haven't done anything like this. As a performing artiste, I need to explore characters unlike those I have portrayed. It is a bold subject but I'm spared sleazy scenes, " she says.
Cougar Town comes to Bollywood. Raveena Tandon will play the character of a 40 plus columnist-author who hooks up with a younger man struggling to find a hold in Bollywood.
