Bollywood star Vivek Oberoi has plans to celebrate the Pongal festival in his adopted village of Thevanapattinam in Tamil Nadu.

En route to the Sabarimala shrine in Kerala, Oberoi said here: "I will reach the village early Saturday and go fishing with the villagers. Most boats and engines damaged in the tsunami disaster have been repaired."

Vivek has reportedly spent Rs. 17.5 million ($400,500) to rehabilitate the Thevanapattinam village devastated on Dec 26.

The actor also asked the Malayalam film industry to adopt tsunami-affected villages in Kerala.

Vivek met actors, film distributors and producers, including Malayalam superstar Suresh Gopi, before leaving for Sabarimala with his mother and aunt.

Says Gopi: "We told him that the film fraternity in Kerala along with the government is holding a musical show Sunday. We expect to raise Rs.10 million ($228,800)."
