Noted actress of yesteryears Waheeda Rehman and eminent film-maker Shakti Samanta have been honoured
with the Lifetime Achievement Awards for their immense contribution to the Hindi film industry at the ongoing
third Pune International Film Festival (PIFF).
Ms Rehman was presented the award here last evening by Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh,
while Union Information and Broadcasting Minister S Jaipal Reddy honoured Mr Samanta, who had directed
memorable films like 'Aradhana', 'Kati Patang' and 'Amanush'.
In her acceptance speech, the 'Guide' actress said she was surprised at getting the award and expressed
happiness that her work was being appreciated even after 30-40 years.
''I am lucky to have become popular. Things just happened to me,'' said Ms Rehman, who is also an
accomplished dancer.
''I was only 13 when I first gave a dance performance in front of then Governor-General C Rajagopalachari at
Vishakhapatnam,'' reminisced the actress, who has acted in memorable movies such as 'Pyaasa', 'Kagaz Ke
Phool', 'Bees Saal Baad', 'Neelkamal' 'Ram Aur Shyam', 'Tesri Kasam' and 'Reshma Aur Shera'.
Mr Samanta, after receiving the award, said he was pleased to have been felicitated and thanked the God and
people for the honour.
''My aim was to always do different types of films. And it was a pleasure doing different films,'' the renowned
director said.
