That Girl In Yellow Boots has a long, long way to go before she reaches her final destination, which also happens to be the one big figure staring at Anurag Kashyap over the past few days.
The filmmaker needs 6, 40, 000 people to purchase tickets for his film. But, going by the current rate, it is going to be difficult for the producers to reach anywhere close to that mark.
The film may have opened to rave reviews, but trade sources say that it has barely managed a 20 per cent opening on Friday, which dipped further by Sunday.
Confirms trade analyst Komal Nahata, "The film may have got critical acclaim, but the opening has been far lesser than expected."
Interestingly, Viacom 18, the producers of the film claim that over 75, 000 people in Mumbai have watched the film, a figure worth contenting over.
Says a source, "Yellow Boots is running in 37 cinemas across Mumbai, that is approximately 100 shows per day.
With the current figures, not more than 50 people are watching the film in one screening. So by those standards, even if you stretch it, the number of people who have seen the film won't go beyond around 25000."
Obviously, one of the main reasons for the poor response is a certain Bodyguard, who seems to be reaping the benefits of an Eid release and a long weekend.
Adds a multiplex official, "The problem is that Yellow Boots is running in very few screens, unlike Bodyguard that is practically overflowing in theatres.
So it must have definitely eaten into any other release." As far as business for the film in other metros goes, most of them have received lesser response than that in Mumbai.
