The escapades of gangsters have always served as fodder for Bollywood movies. The latest filmmaker to draw 'inspiration' from the underworld is Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
His forthcoming film My Friend Pinto starring Prateik and Kalki Koechlin has a spoof on the romance between don Abu Salem (played by Makrand Deshpande) and actress Monica Bedi (played by Divya Dutta).
Says a source, "Makrand plays a gangster who dabbles with film production. After facing losses in the film business, he ends up becoming a don and falls in love with a wannabe starlet (Divya).
It's not completely based on the relationship of Abu and Monica, but you will get glimpse of their controversial love affair.
Since Divya's character doesn't feel secure with Makrand, she looks out for another guy in the same way Monica did with Rahul Mahajan on a reality show.
There is also a character loosely based on the lines of Mahajan. Raj Zutshi plays that role."
