Last week, actor Ranbir Kapoor visited the picturesque town of Nahan in Himachal Pradesh to interact with soldiers posted at the Para Battalion, for a Diwali special episode that a national channel will air.
Says a source, "Ranbir loved interacting with the soldiers. They are all achievers who've fought for the country.
Except for flying a helicopter for a high jump, Ranbir ended up performing all tasks with the commandos, according to their rules. He went rock-climbing, played rugby with the jawaans, and even danced to his songs."
All was going well until the soldiers, cued in to Bollywood gossip, got curious and decided to grab the opportunity to quiz Kapoor about his ex-girlfriends. They are said to have shot questions at him about Sonam Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif and Rockstar co-star Nargis Fakhri.
"They were well-informed although you'd think they are cut off from the world of entertainment, " says the source.
Kapoor is said to have taken it in his stride, managing to dodge most questions. "One cocky jawan even did the towel dance from Saawariya for Ranbir, and asked him to sign the towel at the end of the performance."
It was an emotional moment for the actor when families of some of the jawans showed up.
"Parents, wives and children arrived to greet their loved ones. Seeing the reunion, Ranbir was moved to tears. He was there for two days, and managed to catch a glimpse into their lives since he ended up eating with them, and partaking in most of their daily activities."
