Kicking off the gala events, a Bollywood football match organised where Salman Khan's team steal the show. It was a mixed team with Salman Khan, John Abraham, Arbaaz Khan and Sajid Nadiadwala in one team and Aftab Shivdasani, Arjun Rampal, Upen Patel and Sohail Khan in the other.
After a tense game, Salman's team won but the man of the match was John Abraham who scored the maximum number of goals. Salman's team scored seven goals while Sohail's team scored five.
John charmed sporting hearts in the audience with his skilled playing. Salman and the rest were a tad rusty in the game.
John, who lost a toenail while playing, kept his fans happy by posing with them and giving autographs. However, fans were not allowed to meet Salman who was protected by at least 12 security guards.
Katrina Kaif and Sangeeta Bijlani were in the audience. Suresh Menon's commentary and his take on cricketer Ravi Shastri were much appreciated by the audience.
But all was not hunky-dory at the mega event. A noted editor of a popular Mumbai-based movie trade magazine, Komal Nahta, was charged with molesting a female hotel attendant at Dubai's Novotel World Trade Centre Hotel on Wednesday morning. He was part of a media entourage to cover the awards.
According to front-office manager, Nahta sexually harassed one of the room attendants and displayed nudity when she went to clean his room in the morning.
The attendant fled the scene after a tussle and reported the incident to the supervisor. Though the matter was hushed up after the intervention of the organisers but the closed sources confirm that wounds were found on both the hotel attendant's and Nahta's bodies.
Denying the entire incident Nahta laments, "None of what's been alleged actually took place. The accusation was a result of a row with another waitress in the hotel's restaurant the night before. I was served water in a teacup while dining at the restaurant. Because of this, I had gotten upset with the waitress. To avenge the insult, another hotel employee falsely charged me with molesting her the next morning."
The Global Indian Films Awards function is being held at Dubai's Al Wasl Stadium.
