He has scared you by playing negative characters on screen and at the same time teased you with his comic dialogues in several movies. Actor Paresh Rawal was in Kolkata to showcase his play titled Krishan Vs Kanhaiya at Kalamandir auditorium.

The play was a part of the two day theatre festival "Stage Door" that was presented by Leopard Creations & Weaver Studio Centre For Arts. Supriyo Hazra caught up with Paresh for a quick chat. Excerpts:

Tell us something about the play Krishan Vs Kanhaiya?
This is a hard-hitting play. You won't be able to forgive or forget this play. This play will change your perception in many ways. It is a thought provocative play.

What message do you want to convey through this play?
The message is very hard. With this play, I have got a chance to make you laugh but it is not a mindless comedy.

Do you think that the craze towards theatre will increase in coming days?
Live entertainment will never go out of fashion. With the kind of sub-standard movies, more people will come to theatre.

Do you feel that in case of theatre good new play-writers are not coming up?
No it is not the scenario like new writers are coming up specially in Marathi. They are innovative.

What is your main criteria while selecting a film?
Good script plays a very important role. If good script comes my way, then only I will do the film.

Recently new films are using various 'filthy words'. Do you support it?
I support good cinema and good story. It should move me as a civilian. It should transcend.

How do you feel about performing in Kolkata?
Theatre has been a tradition here. Sambhu Mitra, Kumar Roy have been stalwarts. People in Kolkata love drama.
