The film made news when grapevine buzzed of its lead characters bearing resemblance to pop queens Madonna and Britney Spears.

In "Chaahat Ek Nasha", which is a thriller borne out of a love triangle, Manisha Koirala essays the character of Madonna, while Preeti Jhangyani in a bold and new avatar, emulates Britney.

The story revolves around a famous pop star named Mallika Arora (Manisha Koirala), who is madly in love with a music company magnate Rahul Kapoor (Aryan Vaid).

He proposes to her, but she refuses because according to her marriage is the end of the road for love. They continue with their relationship, but do not tie the knot.

Enters Rashmi Jaitly (Preeti Jhangyani), a pop aspirant who gets cast in Rahul's new music video. Rashmi's debut is a big hit and she becomes an overnight star.

Rahul too falls in love with her. She returns his affection, and they decide to get married.

But when Mallika hears of it, she is shattered. In an intoxicated state of mind, she sends her personal bodyguard Jaidev (Sharad Kapoor) to kill Rahul.

The next morning, she realises her folly. But Jaidev, who has long been in love with Mallika, is determined to carry out the murder. Now it is up to Mallika to save Rahul, and she is ready to go to any extent to stop the murder.
