Sunny Deol's attempt to break his 'dhai kilo ka haath' image is in trouble. The star was greatly excited to essay the role of a dhoti-clad Sanskrit teacher in Mohalla Assi.
Though the film was shot earlier in the year, it has yet to see light of day.
Says a source, "The film is stuck in the post-production stage. There have been several issues including financial that that have bogged the project.
The names associated with it have not been able to reach a consensus about its fate. As a result it lies stuck in the cans."
Directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, the movie is based on the Hindi novel Kashi Ka Assi penned by Kashinath Singh and is about a mohalla in Varanasi on the banks of the river Ganga.
As the audience associates Sunny with his Punjabi drawl, the star had taken a keen interest to get the nuances of Sanskrit right for the dialogue.
On the sets, he had spent a lot of time reading and understanding the country's oldest language. His co-stars in Mohalla Assi include Sakshi Tanwar, Ravi Kissen and Saurabh Shukla.
