We may not doubt her sartorial choices, but Sonam Kapoor's driving skills were recently put to test when she was given to drive a Mini Cooper during practice sessions for the shoot of Abbas-Mustan's next in New Zealand.
Apparently, despite dad Anil Kapoor assuring the director-duo about the actress' adept driving skills, Sonam banged her car into a lamp post while shooting for Players.
For their version of the Hollywood hit, The Italian Job, the filmmakers needed the actors to drive around in smaller cars, in manual ones instead of automatic.
According to director Abbas Burmawala, Anil who was around when the script was narrated to Sonam, suggested that she practise with a smaller hatchback car in India before leaving for New Zealand.
However, once in the foreign country, Sonam got off to a jerky start. As Abbas puts it, "Our action director Allan Amin felt that she should get comfortable zipping around in the Mini Cooper.
So about 10 days before we started shooting, Sonam started practicing driving the Mini. However, on the first day, she accelerated while reversing, and banged into a lamppost." Thankfully, the car didn't suffer much damage and was back in its original condition in two-three days.
The director-duo didn't have to worry about Abhishek Bachchan and Sikander Kher driving the Minis. "The only time they had little difficulty was while getting in and out of the cars. The two guys are tall and the cars are small, " points out Abbas.
