From Sadhana to Waheeda Rahman, Usha Kiran to Nalini Jaywant, Dev Anand romanced most of the beauties of the black and white era. The songs picturised on him and his leading ladies boosted his romantic image and made him the heartthrob of millions.

Here are some of the memorable numbers.

"Yeh raat yeh chaandni phir kahaan" ("Jaal" 1952): This was one of the first few hit songs of Dev Anand. It shows him strumming a guitar on a moonlit evening, and singing for his love, played by Geeta Bali.

"Yaad kiya dil ne kahan ho tum" ("Patita" 1953): Another song with beautiful lyrics and lilting music, it was well-picturised on Dev Anand and Usha Kiran. The song is an all time favourite of music lovers.

"Zindagi ke safar mein rahi milte hain bichad jaane ko" ("Munimji" 1954): A peppy number with philosophical lyrics, the song has Dev Anand wooing Nalini Jaywant while driving her in an open jeep.

"Ankhon hi ankhon mein ishara ho gaya" ("C.I.D." 1956): Through the song, the actor expresses his feelings for his love interest, played by Shakeela.

"Chod do anchal zamana kya kahega" ("Paying Guest" 1957): A playful number, it is picturised in Dev Anand and Nutan and even today sounds refreshing.

"Hai apna dil to awara" ("Solva Saal" 1958): Shot in a moving train, the song has Dev Anand playing the mouth organ and teasing Waheeda Rehman.

"Hum bekhudi mein tumko pukaare chale gaye" ("Kalapani" 1958): A sad number sung by Mohammed Rafi, the song remains one of the best songs picturised on Dev Anand.

"Abhi na jao chodkar" ("Hum Dono" 1962): An out and out romantic number, it has Dev Anand pleading with his girlfriend, played by Sadhana, not to leave so soon and spend some more time with him.

"Khoya khoya chand khula asman" ("Kala Bazar" 1960): A beautifully picturised love song in the outdoors with Waheeda Rehman playing the love interest. Lyrics and music are married so well, that it plays with the listeners' heartstrings.

"Main zindagi ka saath nibhahata chala gaya" ("Hum Dono" 1962): An epitome of cinematic nonchalance, the song is a philosophical number and shows Dev Anand puffing away on a cigarette.

"Gata rahe mera dil" (Guide 1965): Dev Anand portrays a man ecstatic in love, the heroine here is Waheeda. The happy number is sung beautifully by Kishore Kumar.
