After playing gangster Maya Dolas in Shootout at Lokhandwala, it looks like Vivek Oberoi is still in two minds about playing Dawood Ibrahim in Sanjay Gupta's next.
Buzz is that when he read the script containing his part, he was hoping for a more elaborate narration, without which he wasn't keen on coming on board for the film.
Says a source, "Now the primary reason for Vivek's scepticism about Dawood is that he wants to follow Maya Dolas with an equally powerful role."
However, sources say that he may have found the lead character of Manya Surve, played by John Abraham much more interesting.
Adds the source, "Vivek thought that he would be able to do complete justice character graph of Manya. Unfortunately he wasn't approached for that role but for the role of Dawood, which he is still thinking about."
However, director Sanjay Gupta maintains that the actor is as excited about playing Dawood too.
He says, "Vivek always jokes to me about how he'd have loved to play Manya Surve, but that does not mean his role is any less important. He is playing what Dawood Ibrahim was in his formative years and that is an integral part of the story."
However, he doesn't deny the fact that Vivek is not yet officially on board for the film.
Adds Gupta, "None of my actors are on board officially, meaning on paper. I work through my word and everyone knows that.
I start shooting end of this month, so I can't be doing that without the actor giving me the nod." Vivek Oberoi was unavailable for comment.
