The crime branch Friday moved an application in the court of Jammu's chief judicial magistrate stating there was no evidence that Anara Gupta had featured in a pornographic movie and that the case against her should be closed.
The application was almost identical to that moved in the high court Feb 4.
It was not immediately known whether the court had permitted the police to shut the case or not.
Said Anara's counsel Rahul Pant: "Following the failure of the police to find anything against Anara, it was the logical thing for them to do (to shut the case)."
According to him, the true picture about the case would emerge when the high court hears the police plea Feb 17.
The two applications clearly blunt attempts by a section of the police to re-open the case against 18-year-old Anara, a former Miss Jammu.
This was being attempted on the basis of a Chandigarh laboratory's report that contradicted the findings of a Hyderabad facility giving Anara a clean chit.
"This speaks volumes about the war of attrition between the police and its crime branch," Pant said.
Anra's family has steadfastly maintained she was innocent.
"We want full punishment for those who harassed us," demanded Anara's mother Raj Rani.
