Police sources said they were not sure whether Nagma was the same actress who had allegedly accepted Rs 10 lakh from fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim's younger brother Anees as disclosed by accused Jamiruddin alias Jumbo.
Jumbo is currently under CBI custody, which is probing the links of two Gutkha barons with underworld, had in his confessional statement named actress Nagma for having links with Anees.
In an 18-page confessional statement, Ansari has made allegations against Nagma, NCP activist Arshad Siddique, Manickchand gutkha owner Rasiklal Dhariwal and Goa gutkha owner JM Joshi he says, "I have been handling the hawala operations for Anees Ibrahim, brother of gangster Dawood Ibrahim, between 1988 and 1998."
"I was involved in hawala transactions to the tune of Rs 115 crore. I was controlling his hawala business in Mumbai along with a trader, Mulchand Chokshi, (a serial blast accused) from MM Bakers in Zaveri Bazar. In fact, one such transaction pertains to actress Nagma. I personally went to Nagma's flat in Carter Road, Bandra, to deliver Rs 10 lakh which was sent by Anees to her. She was his keep.
According to police, another Nagma, a small-time upcoming actress, had figured during investigations in a criminal case in which her mother was convicted under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) for underworld nexus.
In another turn of events, Jumbo's lawyer Sham Keswani said he had retracted his statement the day his confession was submitted to the court and claimed Jumbo and co-accused Rajesh Panchariya had been "framed".
