Renowned artistes from India and Pakistan are all set to come together to pay tribute to late ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh's on his birthday (February 8).
A few days before the 'first and only official' tribute concert in honour of her late husband, Chitra Singh points out that all other concerts held in the name of her late husband are for purely commercial purposes and hence inconsequential.
Says Chitra, "Ever since he passed away thousands of people are making money in the name of tributes to Jagjit Singh.
Not a single one of them has approached me or bothered to inform me about the events. This concert however is different since it is a charitable initiative."
The Yaadon Ka Safar concert will see several musicians like Ustad Ghulam Ali, Rashid Ali, Shafqat Amanat Ali from Pakistan and Indian artistes like Anup Jalota, Bhupinder and Mitali Singh, Talat Aziz, Suresh Wadkar, Hariharan, Dr L Subramanium and Kavita Krishnamurthy, Shaan, Hans Raj Hans and Kailash Kher coming together for the first time. Chitra considers this as the most fitting way to mark the 71st birth anniversary of the late ghazal king.
The singer adds, "Ghulam Ali saab is specially flying down from Pakistan for this evening. I am happy and grateful that at least someone has come forward to put this together and bothered to include me in the arrangements. We all know he deserves this and more."
The concert is by invitation only and will also see some prominent film personalities like Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, Mahesh Bhatt and Dia Mirza.
