Saif Ali Khan's much ambitious project Agent Vinod is all set to hit the threatres this March. The action spy film is expected to dish out all possible spices, including a mujra by Kareena Kapoor. TWF correspondent Sreya Basu in conversation with the actor-producer after the launch of the first look of the film in Mumbai.

It took a long time for you to make Agent Vinod. Any specific reason for the delay?
Well, what to say! Everybody knows it's taken us two years to do this (film). But I think we have done something special. This is the reason also that I got into film production in the first place. But we decided to make Love Aaj Kal first because it seemed an easier film to make at that time. But Agent Vinod is the reason why I got into film production. This was always my dream project and I am very happy to tell you that it is now complete and I feel it's looking good.

So you are trying to be the Indian James Bond with Agent Vinod?
First of all James Bond is a completely English character. And he is also a character who makes a lot of sense when you compare him against Russia and against communism. He is like a capitalist hero who finds it okay to drink and womanize and still be the hero who saves the world. Agent Vinod is not that. From the first scene of the film, you realize this is an Indian hero who is very different to the Bond character because we didn't want to make a copy of Bond.

What is that one quality that Agent Vinod and Saif have in common?
That's difficult to say. I think we are both honest people...and I am also a very sexy action hero in real life. Agent Vinod is me...I am Agent Vinod.

Kareena is playing the female lead in the film. How do you describe her strength as an actor?
I actually think Kareena is a phenomenal actor.

2011 has been a good year for Kareena with her films doing well at the Box Office. Do you think her lucky charm will help Agent Vinod as well?
Inshallah. Luck chahiye; you have to work hard as well. But luck is the most important thing...we all know that. So we will take anything-a lucky heroine, a lucky rabbit's foot.

Kareena is the only actress who has worked with all Khans (Shah Rukh, Saif Ali, Aamir, Salman, Imran). According to you who makes the best pairing with her?
I think I have to say it's me in Agent Vinod. Obviously, there is no comparison.

Apart from you?
No...no...no. I don't say anyone apart from me.

Now-a-days all Khans are coming up with an ambitious project that will always remain synonymous to their names. Like Shah Rukh got Ra.One and Salman got Dabangg. Are you aiming the same with Agent Vinod?
I will not like to compare me with other Khans. They are seniors and very big stars. All I want to say is that as an actor it's your responsibility that if you have spent 20 years in the industry, you should at least try to realize your experiences and dreams in some way or the other ...in your thoughts, in your field, in your office and under your production. You don't need to think much about what other people are doing.

It seems the days of action heroes are back in Bollywood. Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgan and now you-all are trying their hands at action films again. Who is your favourite action hero in Bollywood?
Oh! They are all very good at action. Akshay Kumar is phenomenal at action...he is extremely fit; Salman is great. All the names you are taking are very special people who create very special films every now and then. But as for your question, I don't have any favourites.
