'The Artist' dominated the 65th British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards as it clinched seven awards on Sunday night.

The silent film took away seven prizes that included best film, best director and best actor categories.

Michel Hazanavicius also won the original screenplay and the best director award for 'The Artist'.

Actor Meryl Streep won the trophy for best actress for her memorable performance in 'The Iron Lady'.The outstanding British film award went to 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy'.

Jean Dujardin grabbed the best actor award for 'The Artist'.

Christopher Plummer took home the best supporting actor award for his performance in the film 'Beginners'.

The best supporting actress trophy was won by Octavia Spencer for her act in the film 'The Help'.

Peter Straughan won the best adapted screenplay award on the night. he also paid tribute to late wife Bridget O'Connor She was also the co-writer of 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy'.
