Mithun-Sourav to play charity soccer match

The football lovers of Kolkata will witness another memorable fundraising match that will be played between Mithun Chakroborthy XI and Sourav Ganguly XI, as announced on Wednesday.

'Mithun Chakraborty XI' will led by Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty while the other side will be playing under the leadership of former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly.

Madan Mitra, Minister of State for Sports, Arup Biswas, Minister of State for Youth Welfare, veteran footballers Sudhir Karmakar, Prasun Banerjee, Manas Bhattacharya, Shyam Banerjee, Shyam Thappa and Bidesh Basu along with N. R Dutta, Chairman, Camellia Group were present at the announcement.

The match will be played to honour legendary soccer player Gautam Sarkar. The winner of the match will lift the 'Camellia Cup'.

Former Bengal footballers and actors from the Bengali film industry Tollywood will be on the ground to play the match.

Madan Mirta said, "Why Gautam Sarkar has not received the Arjuna Award yet? It is a shame. We want to investigate the reason why he did not get it and I hope in future he will get it. Moreover if any support or help is needed then Government is ready to give it."

"I will get down on the field to play the match so that in future I can say that I have played with these great footballers," he said jokingly.

In this benefit match, Camelia Group will handover 10 lakhs, Madam Mitra will will contributestwo lakhs and East Bengal club will give one lakh to Goutam Sarkar respectively.

Ex-footballer Prasun Banerjee said, "It is sad that we do not have any archive or record in footballs except few. So we can't even tell our children and the next generation about the matches we played."

Arup Biswas sadly lamented that the people who took Indian football to golden heights are hardly known to the people.

"Some of the names from Tollywood who will be present are actor Dev, Jeet,Soham, Parambrata, Subhoshree, Srabanti, Director Srijit, Tony and many more," added Arup.

Gautam Sarkar said, "We have talents in our country.If we can assemble them and train them properly then only Bengal will be back toto form."

'Chamellia Football Year Book 2011', that illuminates the very changing graph of Indian football was also launched at the occasion.

The match will take place at Mohun Bagan ground on Mar 2, 2012.
