For debutant director Rocky Khanna's Mastaan which brings together father-son Naseerudin Shah and Vivaan, Toshi and his brother Sharib have recorded a 21-minute love song.
Entitled Mora man mane na the historic song has taken a gruelling 7 days of non-stop singing and recording at Toshi's Sound Of Music studio in Versova Mumbai. So far the song's scratch version has been done by dummy voices.
Toshi, we hear, intends to get Lata Mangeshkar to sing the 21-minute song.
Says Toshi, "We never set out to create such a long song. We just set out on a journey on an unknown highway where our protagonist needed to make a self-searching voyage through his heart. My brother and I just went on recording without counting the minutes. It's finally turned into a 21-minute song. "
Toshi and Sharib who hail from Rajasthan are products of a music contest.
Says Toshi, "We're lucky to be the only winners from the music-talent contests to have survived in the industry. It hasn't been an easy journey for me. I've gone through two near-brushes with death.
I was attacked by a group of hoodlums and then I was in a road accident. I guess God wanted me to go through those life-changing experiences so that one day I could create something that would re-define a film song. "
Interestingly the lengthiest song in a Hindi film so far was the Qawwalli Humein to loot liya mil ke husn walon ne in the film Al Hilal in 1958. It was 11 minutes long. The film was produced by Shree Ram Bohra. His grandson Sunil Bohra is the producer of Mastaan.
