"Little Terrorist", India's only Oscar entry, lost out on the award in the Best Documentary, Short Subjects (Live Action) category.
The award this year was won by British film "Wasp". The Andrea Arnold film set in Dartford tells the story of a young mother who, unable to find a baby sitter, leaves her four
young daughters outside a pub while she's on a date.
The 15-minute "Little Terrorist", directed by Ashvin Kumar, is about a Pakistani boy who is branded a terrorist after straying across the border to India in search of a cricket
ball.
An orthodox Indian Hindu family protects the boy and sets aside fear and mistrust to strike a bond.
The film was inspired by the true story of Munir, a 13-year-old Pakistani boy who crossed into India chasing his cattle in 2003. He was arrested and sent back after then
Indian prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee intervened.
The other films nominated in this Oscar category included "Everything in This
Country Must", "7:35 in the Morning" and "Two Cars, One Night".
Although no film from India made it at the Oscars this year, "Born Into Brothels: Calcutta's Red Light Kids", a documentary made on children in Kolkata's red light areas won
the award for Best Documentary, Features category.
