Bappa Lahiri and Taneesha Verma may have had a big fat wedding with the who's who of the industry in attendance recently. But from the bride's side only her parents Mahendra and Shefali, brother Harsh and grandfather Badriprasad were present.
The rest of the Verma clan was conspicuous by their absence.
This includes Taneesha's uncles — B-Town's action directors and horse suppliers — Bhiku, Pappu, Tinnu, Jeetu — besides Narendra who is into education and politics. Manohar was the only brother who attended the event.
Bappa, son of Bappi Lahiri, tied the knot with Taneesha last week. Salman Khan, Amitabh Jaya and Abhishek Bachchan, Kajol, Kiran Rao and Rani Mukerji were among those who attended the celebrations.
Says an onlooker, "None of the Verma brothers turned up at the wedding. One of the brothers Jeetu had stated that he was shooting with Ajay Devgn in Patiala.
While the rest simply preferred to stay away adding grist to the rumour mills. Their absence at a happy occasion in the family has only fanned greater speculation that all is indeed not well between the brothers. Mahendra had invited all of them for the wedding"
Adds the source, "A few years ago the brothers had their share of differences. It had turned ugly especially between some of them.
There were family issues as some are half brothers. The brothers are allein a dispute over the Verma Horse Stud Farm at Film City, Goregaon, worth several crores. The stud farm, started by Badriprasad, supplies horses for films."
Admits Mahendra, "Although none of my family members were present on the occasion of my daughter's wedding, my father's presence and blessings made up for the absence of my brothers and sisters. My father gave away Taneesha during the bidaai ceremony and that's a huge blessing for me and my daughter."
