"I am in search of an identity. It's a matter of time and luck," tells Vaishali, 25, who was here to promote her latest album "Love Songs".
She started her career by singing jingles and by now has sung over 2,000 Marathi songs. She has also performed for Hindi films.
"I have no reservations about singing anything, from remix to Indipop to an item number. You just have to grab the opportunity and prove yourself."
Not hailing from a film family and being choosy about assignments, the Maharashtrian girl says Bollywood has been a challenge. "Bollywood is so vast and there are so many playback singers. The competition is tough."
However, the young artiste would be only too happy to shed her image.
What she really wants is to make a mark with her voice in films. "I would like to be called a famous playback singer. It's my dream."
The first film she sang for was "Taal". She has also performed for "Lagaan", "Tujhe Meri Kasam", "Girlfriend" and the recent "Padmashree Laloo Prasad Yadav".
Vaishali has scores of super-hit remixes to her credit like "Tu Tu Hai Wohi" "Dilbar Dilse", "Dhagla Lagi Kala" and more recently "Jab Chaye Mera Jadoo" to name a few.
Vaishali said: "Remix is the fact of today though no one knows its future."
Her third album, "Love Songs", comprises eight romantic songs of different moods in a college set-up. Ask about the romantic undertone in these songs, she quipped: "I am quite young and romantic too!"
Up next, she said, are a Punjabi and a classical album. "I love experimenting a lot and hence these albums."
