According to reports on Monday, Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar will take oath on May 16.
President Pratibha Patil approved the names of actor Rekha and cricket icon Tendulkar for nominated seats in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament.
Both Rekha and Tendulkar accepted their nominations.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition that challenged Tendulkar's nomination to the Rajya Sabha.
The Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Deepak Verma dismissed as withdrawn the petition made by a Ram Gopal Singh Sisodia.
Sisodia argued that the nomination of the Indian batting maestro to the Rajya Sabha was against the provisions as stated in the Indian constitution.
He argued that Article 80(3) of the Constitution called for the nomination of important people from various sectors like science, literature, social services and art but it did not have the provision for nominating a person to the Upper House of the Indian Parliament from the category of sports.
