The makers could not turn it into major numbers and although the collections of the film have been decent, it is far from the expectations that the industry held for it.
The trade is certain the film will make money for the producers but the distributor who bought the film and released it for around approximately Rs 42 crore (Including P & A) may lose heavily on the film. Despite the hype and promotion, the film opened to close to Rs 3 crore making the opening very dull.
The second day was better and Sunday brought in the family audience but the film dropped heavily on Monday making its chances bleak. Although the distributor claims that the film has collected nearly Rs 14 crore, trade experts feel that it is around Rs 13 crore.
On the other hand, Rowdy Rathore continues to hold fort even in its third week. The weekend collections of the film are around Rs 9.65 crore and the film is all set to cross the Rs 125 crore mark making it the 5th highest after 3 Idiots (Rs 202 cr), Bodyguard (Rs 150 cr), Dabangg (Rs 145 cr) and Ready (Rs 128 cr).
Shanghai continues to disappoint its investors with a weekend of around Rs 3 crore making it to around Rs 20 crores overall. A trade expert says, "The film will now struggle to break even and contrary to its rave reviews, it is a disappointment at the box office."
The other two releases, Chakradhar and Kshay have proved to be disasters at the box office and so have been the Hollywood films Piranha 3DD and Rock of Ages. However, Avengers is still raking in the moolah and is all set to touch Rs 50 crore.
