The story of Devdas, who was a doomed lover is coming true in real life. Tragedy is a constant companion of the production team of Devdas. So much so that some sources believe that this venture is jinxed.It started with the casting of the movie. Govinda and Kareena, the original choice for the movie walked out on this 20-crore venture. Aishwarya Rai who replaced Kareena took ill on the very first schedule due to food poisoning and the shoot had to be cancelled.

Then on December 9, 2000 a huge storm fan spun out of control resulting in one death and the other injured turning into a vegetable.On January 18, 2001 Bharat Shah, the financer of the movie was arrested. It resulted in the project grinding to a halt but Sanjay Leela Bhansali managed things somehow as he did not want to loose the dates of Shahrukh and Ash.

As recent as August 12, a light man on the sets of Devdas at Filmistan fell headlong and was killed.And on Monday evening on 24 Sep, the store of the sets at Film City caught fire and the total gear of the movie was destroyed. It will take some time before the replacement is arranged.This was the fifth tragedy on the sets and tongues are really wagging that Sanjay Leela Bhansali should wind up before something really major strikes him.
