After evading the issue in public, Zaveri decided to discuss the unpleasant behind-the-scenes truth.
Zaveri thinks it's unfortunate that Koirala refuses to acknowledge the fact that he has resurrected the actor's non-existent career with Fun. His debut film was shelved and his second film has been awaiting release, the director claims
"Our well-wishers dissuaded us from casting him, but since I directed the television serial pilots for Manisha's home production, and share a good rapport with her, I assumed that her brother would be a wonderful person to work with. Instead, he turned out to be someone who threw tantrums and was nothing but an inconvenience to the cast and crew. He even abused and humiliated the producers. He accused me of not knowing how to direct a film. That was the last straw," fumes Zaveri.
Koirala is perturbed by the allegations. "I couldn't attend the film's promotions since I was running a high fever. Had I not cooperated, they wouldn't have even completed the film! I have never bad mouthed my producers." He maintains that he should be the one to be upset, since the director had a "terrible" voiceover artist, dub for him, when in fact, Koirala had agreed to do his own dubbing.
"He just could not dub. I was left with no choice and I hired a professional dubbing artist. Siddharth was informed about the change," the director clarifies.
Is Manisha aware of this mess?
"I respect Manisha and don't want to involve her in this unpleasant episode."
The actor did not attend Monday night's media celebration hosted by producer Surendra Bhatia, either.
"Actually, I am unhappy with my role in Fun. Since I am Manisha's brother, I have a reputation to maintain. Does that unknown director think he's a Sanjay Leela Bhansali?" retorts the actor.
Koirala wonders why co-stars Payal Rohtagi and Hina Rehman are happy with him, while the director chooses to have a problem with his attitude. "Why did models Arzoo Govitrikar and Mahek Chahel walk out of Fun just after the mahurat?" he asks.
Meanwhile, Zaveri has made up his mind never to work with Koirala again.
