Richard Pena, who is organising the 12-film retrospective, said: "The response to ticket sales has been great."
Asked whether those who were buying tickets included mainstream Americans or mainly South Asian audiences, Pena tells: "There is a wide variety of people buying tickets. Of course, Bachchan has a solid base among South Asians."
The films are: "Zanjeer", "Amar Akbar Anthony", "Dev", "Aks", "Khakee", "Black", "Namak Halal", "Abhiman", "Saudagar", "Anand", "Agneepath" and "Aankhen".
Apart from the films, the biggest draw for the audiences will be Bachchan's personal appearance April 15 when he will discuss his career and movies.
"A BBC survey recently confirmed what his millions of fans worldwide already knew: Bachchan is the most popular film star in the world, the most recognised face, the biggest box-office draw. We're deeply honored that Bachchan accepted our invitation to Lincoln Centre for this brief but heartfelt tribute," the society's website said.
