Last week's releases - English Vinglish and Kismet Love Paisa Delhi - have met with rather opposite fates at the box office. While Sridevi's comeback film was appreciated by the multiplex audience and even got excellent reviews, the critics panned KLPD, starring Vivek Oberoi and Mallika Sherawat.
Gauri Shinde's directorial debut collected Rs 12.23 crore in its opening weekend (Friday - Rs 2.13 cr, Saturday - Rs 4.33 cr and Sunday - Rs 5.77 CR), KLPD on the other hand collected Rs 4.38 crore (Fridays - R 1.38 cr, Saturday - Rs 1.25 cr and Sunday - Rs 1.75 cr).
Last week's release Oh My God continues to do good business and has collected Rs 12.17 crore in its second weekend bringing its total to Rs 48.28 crore (first week at Rs 36.11 cr). Barfi! in the meanwhile has joined the Rs 100 crore club and has collected Rs 96.29 crore in the first three weeks and is still strong in its fourth weekend collecting Rs 6.06 crore.
Trade Analyst Atul Mohan says, `English Vinglish is being liked by the women audience and is doing well. The collections have picked up while KLPD has failed. The latter was lacking in promotions and the title worked against the film.`
Trade expert Amod Mehra points out, `English Vinglish opened very poorly and showed a little improvement on Saturday. However it took a fairly big jump on Sunday. It is too early to call it a hit, as collections in the single-screens are not up to the mark. KLPD on the other hand is a total washout.`
