Director Vikramaditya Motwane, whose directorial debut "Udaan" won seven Filmfare awards, feels that too many producers affect creativity of a movie.

"I am not in favour of having too many producers because I feel it limits the creativity. I feel there should be just one producer so that the director can fight and argue with one or two people. Three makes it a mess," he said.

"My producer should believe in my script and work with me on it. He should be someone who I can call at odd hours and in moments when I panic. He should sit during editing and respect my vision. He must state his point of view too," said Motwane, who worked as an assistant to Sanjay Leela Bhansali on projects "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" and "Devdas".

Currently Motwane is busy with "Lootera", a period romance, releasing next year.

The 35-year-old was speaking at a panel discussion Friday titled 'Who is the producer?' at the ongoing 14th Mumbai Film Festival.

The discussion aimed at understanding the role of a producer and to decide on the number of producers for a film.

Guneet Monga, co-producer "Gangs of Wasseypur", Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios, Shrishti Arya, who co-produced "London Paris New York" with brother Goldie Behl, and producer Julian Alcantara were also part of the panel.

Arya said: "The role of a producer is very murky. Most of the people don't know what a producer is actually supposed to do. All they know is that he is there to just save money."
