Contrary to expectations, director Mohit Suri, Udita's real life beau, gave the meatier role to Shetty who eventually hogged all the limelight in the film. And poor Udita was left with nothing but a few steamy scenes and bare back to flaunt.
Today, the model-turned-actress rues her decision to take up a role in Bhatt film which does nothing but exploits her hot bod.
"I have been cheated. I am not an item-number girl. If Aishwarya Rai had been in place of Shamita, I would have digested that," she hits out.
"If I knew that my role would be so short in comparison to Shamita's, I would not have done Zeher. Shamita Shetty is there in almost every scene. A song that was to be picturised on me was passed on to her. I was led to believe that the other woman role in Zeher would be meatier, but it has just turned out to be fleshier," she says.
The cold treatment meted out at the sets by Suri has led to the heated arguments between the lovers. According to the latest rumours the two are not even talking to each other anymore.
"I am not seeing Udita. I have many things to do in life," says the disillusioned Suri, who has already started working on Bhatt's next venture Blue Film featuring Deepal Shaw.
The spat became even uglier when Udita Goswami hit out at Mahesh Bhatt by saying, "I don't know if I will work with Bhatts again. I was told that it would not be used in the film. It helped the producer to get the crowds in. I was game. But now I feel that I got them the audience and I don't have sufficient footage in the film."
Mahesh Bhatt, however, rubbishes Udita's claim and alleges, "I don't know why Udita is washing dirty linen in public. She knew the exact length of her role. Shamita certainly had a better role and Udita knew about it."
Shamita, who feels unnecessarily dragged in this controversy is amazed to see to the hullabaloo being created.
"Udita and I got along very well whenever we met on the sets. If this is what she is saying about me, Udita has hurt me deeply," she says.
