How many cooks does it take to spoil the broth? There are three composers - Anand Raaj Anand, Milind Sagar and Prajwal Anand - and four lyricists - Madan Pal, Pratik Joseph, Praveen Bharadwaj and Shyam Anuragi - putting their heads together to supply sonority to Mahesh Manjrekar`s father-son drama.
Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan instil an instant intimacy into Yeh kaisa ehsaas hai. That comes from the singers` quick uptake, rather than any intrinsic magic in the tune. Again, Sunidhi brings inviting skills into her rendition. But I prefer the other title song Tumse milkar hua hai ehsaas. It casts the enormously talented KK away from his cool-dude image to let him sing in romantic abandon in the company of the melodiously inclined Bela Shende.
Sonu and Sunidhi have a second duet, Ek baar pyaar, to sing their truth into. This time, a mundane composition (by Anand Raaj Anand) lets them - and us - down.We can`t really fault this score for faltering. Because it doesn`t. The three composers and four lyricists manage to put together seven swinging tunes. The Milind Sagar-composed sozzled-in-Goa number Juhi ne dil maanga has lyricist Anwar Sagar fantasising about all the pin-up queens of our cinema falling all over the singer. Well, dreams don`t cost anything.
Udit Narayan and his son Aditya have earlier sung an upbeat father-son number for Anu Malik in Akele Hum Akele Tum. In Ehsaas, they do a rather grim track where sonny-boy sobs his apology about a rather grave mistake. Aditya goes solo in the spunky kiddies-are-having-fun track Yeh din bachpan ke. He is shaping into a fine singer. But he needs to go slow on the showbiz trail, or else he would burn himself out in no time.
The inspirational Zindagi ek daud hai by Shankar Mahadevan is uncharacteristically out of sorts. This run-baba-run number is no Chariots Of Fire. But it does have elements of Europe`s The Final countdown which was first used ten years ago by Raamlaxman in Maine Pyar Kiya.
A wide variety of singers, composers and lyricists, plus three bonus songs from Yaadein, Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke and Ajnabee (oops wrong move, because the buyer gets suspicious when he`s offered extra value for his money) and yet we are left with a feeling of being in a state of ominous status quo.
