Director Sameer Sharma is happy that his "underdog" film "Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana" has been well received by audiences, and says it could have gone "unnoticed".

Co-produced by Anurag Kashyap and UTV Motion Pictures, the movie was made within a budget of Rs.3 crore, but it managed to set the cash registers ringing and earned Rs.7 crore within six days of it's Nov 2 release.

"I am really happy to see the audience's response. We had a Rs.3 crore film, which was always an underdog and now we have earned Rs.7 crore and are growing. These are the figures that give you a sense of the audience's appreciation," Sharma told.

"Films like this don't really hit across and go unnoticed. It's amazing that we have been noticed. There is audience appreciation, critical appreciation and industry appreciation. It has been really overwhelming," added the debutant.

The 40-year-old, who has been in the industry for a long time, says it was the faith of the movie's experienced producers that gave him the confidence to go ahead with the project.

"I had UTV and Anurag Kashyap as my producers. For me they are the best people you can get in the business. They have done some fantastic work before, so that took care of everything. These people sensed fun in the film. In that sense, we were very blessed that we have wonderful producers," he said.

The movie, a fun family comedy, features actors Kunal Kapoor and Huma Qureshi in lead roles, and has a bevy of other actors in the cast like Rajesh Sharma, Vipin Sharma, Dolly Aluwalia and the director says he always wanted to make the movie with many characters.

"I wanted an ensemble cast. For me, Kunal and Huma are very important, but so are the rest of the characters. They are all my heroes. Today when people call me after watching the film they talk about each and every character and that I think is the biggest victory.

Sharma, whose film was set around a chicken recipe, shares his recipe to cook a good film.

"I think it is important to make an honest film which is going to engage people and it can be any genre. You have to communicate with the audience. Give them a sense of emotion, make them laugh, touch their souls. It's all about what you create for them, he said.

The director is now working on a new script, based on the world of music.
