The two Diwali releases 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' and 'Son of Sardaar' are running neck to neck at the box office

Finally the much-talked about war between the two Diwali releases Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Son of Sardaar has come to a conclusion. Sources say while JTHJ seems to have got more numbers in terms of collections, SOS has turned out to be a very stiff competitor and in the long run might just inch ahead of JTHJ.

Yash Chopra's final film has collected around Rs 80.73 crore in its first six days (Tuesday - Rs 15.23 cr, Wednesday - Rs 19.54 cr, Thursday - Rs 14.23cr, Friday - Rs 11.17 cr, Saturday - Rs 10.38 cr and Sunday - R10.18 cr) in India.

On the other hand, SOS has collected about Rs 66.02 crore (R 10.73 cr on Tuesday, Rs 16.21 cr on Wednesday Rs 12.20 cr on Thursday, Rs 9.25 cr on Friday, Rs 8.50 cr on Saturday and Rs 9.13 cr on Sunday).

An industry insider says, `SOS had around 500 screens lesser than JTHJ and it might turn out to be Ajay Devgn's biggest hit in India. However overseas, SRK has yet again proved that no one is bigger than him.`

Amod Mehra, trade analyst says, `Both the films seem to be neck-to-neck in terms of their performance. While the first day was good for both, the second day and the third were extraordinary. The fourth day was almost identical but on Saturday and Sunday, SOS has managed to have a slight edge over JTHJ.`

He adds, `In fact in North and some other centres SOS stands better than JTHJ. In South and overseas, JTHJ is huge. However both the films may just about cross the Rs 100 crore mark. The whole talk about R 200 crore or Rs 150 crore can easily be put to rest.`

Trade guru Atul Mohan points out, `SOS has stood its ground and if you compare both the films in terms of average, ticket rates, footfalls, etc, SOS might in the long run get a few inches ahead. However, the last two days will result in the loss of around R 6-7 crore for both the films owing to the death of Bal Thackeray and the cinema halls getting closed.`
