Director Abhishek Kapoor says he has cast newcomers in his upcoming film 'Kai Po Che' to make the most of their talent, which is untouched by the glitz and glamour. The film, which is based on Chetan Bhagat's novel 'The 3 Mistakes of My Life', marks the debut of TV actors Sushant Singh Rajput and Amit Sadh

t also stars Raj Kumar Yadav and Amrita Puri. 'New actors have a lot to offer. They give you a certain kind of energy and purity. They are not stylised, they are not yet aware of the glitz and glamour and are capable of giving an honest, sensitive performance. I was quite taken aback by their performance, ' Kapoor told. 'Even my last film 'Rock On' had new actors.

Farhan (Akhtar) made his debut with it. There was Purab Kohli, Luke Kenny, Prachi Desai. Only Arjun Rampal was a well known actor. So, I think I have made a point by doing so, ' he added. 'Kai Po Che' portrays the journey of three friends as they discover cricket, religion and business in their respective fields.

Set against the backdrop of religious politics, the story underlines the three mistakes made by Govind. The film as well as the book is set in Gujarat and has been shot in real locations in the state. 'When I read the book.

I felt that this was the apt story of India because it has religion, politics, cricket and youth. It is the story of three boys from Gujarat, the dynamics of their friendship, dreams, love, conflict, sacrifices. 'Although the film is based in Gujrat, it is meant for a pan India audience.

Infact it is a film which represents our country beautifully and I hope that the global audience will get a taste of India after watching it, ' Kapoor said.

When asked if it was difficult to adapt a popular novel into a film, Kapoor said, 'It was a difficult film to make and it took me almost three years to put this story together. 'Adapting a book into a film gets very difficult because you have to show everything in two or two and half hours. We could not keep everything in the film. But we have managed to retain most of the portions, ' he added.

Kapoor made his directorial debut with 'Aryan' in 2006. His last film 'Rock On' was well received and also won the National award for Best Feature Film in Hindi in 2009.

'I am aware of the expectations after 'Rock On' was such a hit. Like 'Rock On', this too is about male bonding. While 'Rock On' was about urban life, music and dreams, 'Kai Po Che' is much wider, ' he said. The promotions of 'Kai Po Che' will kickstart in January. The film will hit theatres on February 22, 2013.
