Anupam Kher recently gave up the chance to be present at the Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles for the sake of promoting his upcoming Hindi film back home. However, he doesn't want to repeat the same with Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards, which is scheduled to take place on January 27. He has already left for the event in LA to be with his co-stars.
After all, he is nominated as part of the best ensemble cast - alongside Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Tucker and Jacki Weaver - for the acclaimed romantic comedy Silver Linings Playbook.
Over the past decade, Anupam has appeared in many international movies but this film marks the first time he's been nominated for a prize in the Hollywood circle.
Describing his working with De Niro as a dream-come-true, the veteran actor provided a better example. `If you meet your favourite writer, wouldn't you be excited? On top of that, if he asks you to write a piece along with him, wouldn't you be doubly excited? The same thing happened with him. I've always been in awe of his performance, be it in Raging Bull or Cape Fear.`
On being asked whether he's tense about bagging an award at SAG, the veteran actor puts the doubt to rest. `To me, being able to share that room with some of the finest actors on earth is more than enough. Moreover, I'm glad that I'm appreciated for my work in the film, ` signs off Anupam.
India, abroad!
Suraj Sharma: Though the 19-year-old was overlooked by the Oscars as well as Golden Globes for his one-man-show in Ang Lee's Life of Pi, he is one of the nominees for BAFTA's EE Rising Star Award.
Interestingly, he's also the only male in the category. His fellow-nominees are Elizabeth Olsen, Andrea Riseborough, Juno Temple and Alicia Vikander.
Bombay Jayashri: Her Lullaby song in Life of Pi has been nominated for Best Original Song at the Academy Awards.
Composed by Mychael Danna (who is the co-nominee), the lyrics were written by Bombay herself. This also marks the first time a Tamil song has been nominated for the Oscars.
