Actor and social activist Rahul Bose has termed the Maharashtra government's decision to ban dance bars as "unfair".

"It is very unfair on the government's part. Any socially responsible and wise government would not have taken such a step without giving a thought about the livelihood of bar dancers," he said, reports Bollywood Trade.

"There are issues of social rehabilitation that need to be taken care of. Besides it will only encourage dancers to look for other unethical means of livelihood and kill the very purpose for which they are being banned," says Bose. He has decided to support the fight of the bar dancers in whatever way he can.

The Maharashtra government decided to ban dance bars April 12 in Mumbai. It had in March banned dance bars in the rest of the state saying the bars were turning into vice dens.

The actor had organised relief for the Dec 26 tsunami victims and also spoken out for victims of the slum demolition in the city.

Bose is endorsing the cause of four social organisations, including one on gender equality and another on spastics
