Actors Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Prashant Narayanan support the Central Board of Film Certification's (CBFC) decision to be more stringent about the content of item songs which go on TV. The two feel that raunchy numbers can impact children and banning such songs won't take too much away from a movie.

Prashant, who has been part of intense and bold films like "Bhindi Baazaar" and "Murder 2", respectively, says it is good that a "non-crucial part of a film" would be banned.

"If people have to sell their films by showing the item songs only, then it is good that they are banning it. I feel something which is not a crucial part of the film and is used as a marketing strategy to sell a film should not be shown on TV," Prashant said here in an interview.

The censor board decided to tighten its standards for item songs and other similar category videos after a number of complaints regarding the quality of content on a public platform like TV came in, following the Delhi gangrape incident.

Nawazuddin feels such songs are having a negative impact on children and, therefore, it is a good step by CBFC.

"This ban on item songs is very necessary. If you say that TV is a family entertainer, then there are kids as well in a family and don't learn anything other than this," the 39-year-old said here in an interview.

"The entire day they only watch such songs and dances and then they react in a similar manner. So I am feeling good about it (the measures)," added the actor who wowed everyone with his performances in "Gangs of Wasseypur" and "Kahaani".
