"It was also conveyed to me by Baz Luhrmann that 'The Great Gatsby' shall be premiered in New York on the 1st of May and that... and this is hugely celebratory... it shall be the opening film at the Cannes (International) Film Festival, on May 15, " Amitabh posted on his blog.
A book-to-screen adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's bestseller of the same name, "The Great Gatsby" features Hollywood actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire in lead roles.
Amitabh, 70, features in a brief appearance as Meyer Wolfsheim, a man with a dark past, who helps DiCaprio's character make money when he first comes to New York after the first World War.
"This is great news, and even though there is only half-a-blink-and-you-miss role for me, I am delighted for Baz and Leonardo and Toby, and Carey Mulligan and all those that worked on the project, " he wrote on his blog.
The Indian actor will attend the Cannes film fest.
"It looks like I shall be doing a lot of travelling during those days, " he added.
