Dhawan-Govinda duo rose in the film firmament with blockbusters "Shola Aur Shabnam", "Aankhen", "Coolie No 1", "Hero No 1", among others.
Dhawan said: "Govinda is a well-versed actor. My bonding with Govinda was the best and that's why the films worked pretty well. It was like Amitji (Amitabh Bachchan) and Manmohan Desai bonding. We could understand each other very well. He is a brilliant actor."
The director also teamed up with Salman Khan in "Judwaa", "Biwi No. 1" and Rishi Kapoor in "Bol Radha Bol".
Why didn't you cast Govinda for "Chashme Baddoor"?
"Govinda wouldn't have fit the bill. It's a youth oriented film. I used to miss Govinda while taking shots for the film, " he said.
"Of course, we will make a film together. I took him in 'Partner' and he came out with flying colours. Once an actor, always an actor."
"Chashme Baddor" is a remake of Sai Paranjpye's 1981 buddy film with dollops of fun with the same title.
Remake of successful films brings pressure, but David didn't feel any while remaking the cult comedy.
"I didn't have any pressure while making 'Chashme Baddoor'. I had written the script and made it, so there is no question of pressure, " David said.
While Farooque Sheikh, Ravi Baswani, Rakesh Bedi and Deepti Naval featured in the cast of the original, new version features Ali Zafar, Siddharth, Taapsee Pannu among others.
