"I will encourage people in Bollywood to come here for shooting as they will find qualified technicians and the cost will be much lower compared to Britain and Switzerland that are favourite locales with our directors," he said.
Khanna, who is also a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP, was in the Polish capital on a four-day private visit to attend a convention of the newly established political party - Partia Democracia.
Khanna said he was open to acting offers but only if the script gave him a role he could sink his teeth into. "I am waiting for a proper script where I can do justice to my acting ability. I am contemplating writing a script on modern-day diplomatic life. If I succeed I would love to direct that movie."
Referring to the Polish film industry, Khanna said Poland had a history of making outstanding films. The film institute at Lodz had produced world famous directors like Roman Polanski, Andrzej Wadja and Krzysztof Zanussi.
Khanna said the Indian film industry was far from being professional and filmmakers were afraid to move away from hackneyed themes. The actor blamed filmmakers for the lack of imaginative scripts, saying they were afraid of venturing away from formula movies.
Moreover, Bollywood had not developed as a proper industry. "Professionalism has to be imbibed in a vigorous way," said Khanna.
In the 70s Vinod Khanna along with Amitabh Bachchan was considered a contender for the most-popular-hero slot in Bollywood. At the height of his movie career, Khanna gave up films and became a follower of spiritual guru Osho.
"Frankly my talents were seldom tested barring in a few films like 'Dayavan', 'Chandni', 'Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki' and 'Kacche Dhaage'."
Asked about his sons, Khanna said while the elder one Rahul was struggling to find his feet in the industry, Akshaye had established himself and was choosing scripts with care.
"After the success of 'Taal' and 'Border', hardly any script appeals to him. At the moment he has agreed to do 'Gandhi vs Mahatama' where he will play Gandhiji's eldest son Harilal. It will be a challenging role."
