After giving the industry some of its hit comedies, veteran filmmaker David Dhawan says he wants to bid adieu to slapstick films and make meaningful films

Dhawan, 52, who is behind films like "Raja Babu", "Coolie No. 1", "Judwaa", "Biwi No.1" and many more, said the new filmmakers have inspired him to make cinema which is more realistic and at the same time entertaining. "After directing 40 films in my career till now, I want to make films which are more realistic. Our industry is going through the best phase and these young generation is extremely talented.

This is the time for experimental cinema. I am also following the same trend and have decided not to make mindless comedies. I want to make meaningful and entertaining films, " Dhawan told.

Dhawan is making a comeback after a gap of four years with "Chashme Buddoor" remake and for the first time he did not cast his lucky charms Govinda, Sanjay Dutt and Anil Kapoor. The film will see a bevy of young talents including Ali Zafar, Taapsee Pannu and Divyendu Sharma.

It also stars southern star Siddharth, who made his debut with Aamir Khan starrer "Rang De Basanti" in 2006. "I was enjoying a small break from films in these years. One day the studio bosses of Viacom 18 Motion Pictures approached me and asked me to make a remake of 1981 film 'Chashme Buddoor'.

I agreed to do that because it was a hit of that time and was close to my heart because the then actors in the film are good friends of mine. "I changed the script with writer Sai Paranjpye almost eighty per cent and gave it a today's feel. I scouted for actors and think have got best of the lot. They all are extremely talented and keen to learn actors, " Dhawan said.

"Chashme Buddoor" will release on April 5, the day on which the original film was released 32 years ago. Dhawan's last release was "Rascals" which starred Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt and was a major dud at the box-office. He says the lose script of the film was the main reason behind its failure.

"There were many things that went wrong in the film major being the script. It was not in sync with today's time, " the director said. Dhawan is excited with the way his sons' - Rohit and Varun - careers in the Bollywood are shaping up.

Rohit made his debut as a director with "Desi Boys" and Varun entered the industry with Karan Johar's "Student of the Year". "I am proud of my sons. They didn't take my help to launch them. I was always with them as a guiding light.

Varun has got a dream start with Karan's film and Rohit gave a hit 'Desi Boys' with his first film, " he said. Dhawan is working next with his son Varun in "Main Tera Hero". It is an entertaining film and is being produced by Ekta Kapoor.
