According to the trade experts, David Dhawan's remake of the classic makes a good opening in the weekend

David Dhawan's Chashme Baddoor seems to be bringing the smiles back on everyone's face after the white wash at the box office last week.

The film that opened with a mixed response has managed to rake in around Rs 18.47 crore in its opening weekend with Friday being Rs 4.95 crore, Saturday being around Rs 6 crore and Sunday being Rs 7.54 crore. The collections seem promising even with a relatively new star cast and has been helmed by a filmmaker, who has been struggling of late at the box office.

Meanwhile, Sajid Khan's Himmatwala proved to be extremely disappointing with its first week being Rs 40.52 crore and the weekend managing around Rs 3.5 crore bringing its total for the first 10 days to around Rs 44.02 crore.

The other release for the week The Rise of Zombies has turned out to be a disaster with collections not even touching Rs 50 lakh in its opening weekend. Jolly LLB meanwhile has collected Rs 1 crore in its fourth weekend and its total stands at around Rs 31 crore so far.

Trade analyst Amod Mehra says, `It has been a very good weekend for a film with a non-star cast and a new heroine. David Dhawan had been struggling for form since quite some time.

The steady rise in the collections from Friday being average to Saturday being better and Sunday being bumper shows that the film is a hit. It can be safely termed as the first genuine hit of the year where everyone will make money -- be it the distributor, exhibitor or even the producer. At the age of 60, David has made a successful comeback.`

Trade expert Atul Mohan adds, `Chashme Baddoor is a plus film for everyone and the marketing strategy has worked. The fact that it was promoted among youngsters has worked. A film with virtually no star managing to bring good collections is quite commendable especially when big stars do not even manage to break even.`
