While some of the most coveted addresses in Mumbai belong to leading Bollywood personalities, incidentally, South actor Prithviraj is having a tough time in buying his own property in the city. Reason being that he simply can't afford it.
The Thiruvananthapuram-based star, who made his Bollywood debut opposite Rani Mukerji in Aiyyaa, found his second B-Town outing in Aurangzeb.
Says Prithvi, `The reason why I haven't bought a house in Mumbai till date is because I haven't got anything within my budget. This might sound a bit awkward but trust me, I've looked at at least a dozen places till now. In most cases, it's the ridiculous price demanded. A total of R 12 crore is too much, don't you think?`
Prithviraj feels having a pad in Mumbai makes all the difference in the careers of South actors working in Bollywood. He feels that that is one of the reasons why South actresses have managed to establish themselves better in B-Town than the actors.
`The reason why South megastars -- be it Kamal Haasan or Rajnikanth -- couldn't leave a massive footprint behind in Bollywood is because they never really took Hindi film industry that seriously!
The likes of Hema or Sridevi invested everything they had here and were very keen on their careers. Even the younger lot, be it Asin, Tamannaah or Shruti Haasan have a place to call home in Mumbai,` explains Prithvi.
So is a new house in Mumbai on the cards soon? `Hopefully, yes but I need to be here for at least a month at a stretch for a thorough search. Whenever I am here, I only get to see five-six flats at one go,` sums up Prithvi.
B-Town's recent purchases
Neil Nitin Mukesh allegedly paid a jaw-dropping Rs 30 crore to buy a swanky new abode in south Mumbai. Sonu Sood apparently coughed up Rs 20 crore for a 6,000 sq ft duplex in a posh apartment complex in Mahalaxmi.
