Rai, of 'Tanu Weds Manu' fame, has teamed up with southern star Dhanush and Sonam for 'Raanjhanaa'.
"I think Sonam is under-utilised. The kind of performance she has given in this film is amazing. The way she was involved with the film was tremendous. Wait and watch Sonam, " Rai told. Sonam, daughter of actor Anil Kapoor, made her debut with 'Saawariya' in 2007 which did not do well at the box office.
After a string of unsuccessful films including 'Thank You', 'Mausam' and 'Players', she is now gearing up for 'Raanjhanaa', where she will be seen essaying the role of a girl-next-door.
The 27-year-old has big projects like 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' and 'Khoobsurat' remake, besides a YRF untitled film opposite Ayushmann Khurrana.
The world may be familiar with Sonam's fashionista side, but the director reveals that in reality she is a simple girl. "After meeting and talking to Sonam and her family while narrating her this film, I realised that she is a middle class girl.
She is next-door-girl. She behaves in the same way as any girl would behave, " Rai said. 'Raanjhanaa', slated to release on June 21, is a story of a Hindu boy who falls in love with a Muslim girl.
