The Esplanade Court on Tuesday granted bail to eight persons who are accused in the betting scandal, including actor Vindu Dara Singh Randhawa, and former CSK chief Gurunath Meiyappan

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate MN Saleem ordered the release of both men, along with all other accused including Ramesh Vyas, Pandurang Kadam, Ashok Vyas, Neeraj Shah, and Prem Taneja , `on the ground of parity`, and has directed them not to leave the country. The court had already granted bail to Pravin Bora and Pankaj Shah.

The men released today will also be required to come to police every alternate day between 11 am and 2 pm, for the purpose of investigations. The men were released on bail of Rs. 25,000 with one or two sureties in the like amount. The court stipulated that they couldn't tamper with the evidence or witnesses. The men have also been directed to provide their full addresses.

Case background
Appearing on Meiyappan's behalf, advocate Aabad Ponda on an earlier date had argued that he was not involved in either match-fixing or spot fixing. Moreover placing bets is a bailable offence. Only three sections levelled against the men are non-bailable, sections 420 (cheating), 466 and 468 of the Indian Penal Code.

Satish Maneshinde, representing Vindu, had told the court on an earlier date that he was not part of a larger conspiracy and the allegation that Vindu had helped some bookies escape didn't stand as the bookies were not wanted accused at that time.
